Terms of use
Last updated 9 October 2026
These terms explain what The Quiet Path is, what it isn’t and how it works. By using the site, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.
What The Quiet Path does
The Quiet Path collects, organises and displays information and calculators, so you can see where things stand, what’s missing and what may be owed.
It sets out a logical way forward and helps you understand the whole process, one step at a time. The information is drawn from publicly available sources, such as Inland Revenue (IRD), other government websites and free public websites.
Information, not advice
The Quiet Path doesn’t give advice of any kind. Nothing on the site is legal advice, a legal opinion or financial advice, and it isn’t a substitute for advice from a qualified professional who knows your situation.
The site never contacts anyone on your behalf. It doesn’t contact the other parent, IRD, your bank, a lawyer or anyone else. Any letter, summary or message it helps you prepare is a draft. You decide whether to use it, change it or send it.
The Quiet Path is not part of Inland Revenue or any government agency.
Check before you act
Rules, rates and processes change, and the information here may be out of date or incomplete. Before you act on anything, check it with IRD, Community Law or a lawyer.
Figures from the calculators are estimates and illustrations, based on what you enter. IRD makes the actual child support assessments.
It runs automatically
The site works automatically in your browser. No person reviews your information, and no one gives you individual feedback or advice through the site.
Your information
What you type into The Quiet Path, such as dates, names, notes, ticks and your log, is saved in your browser on this device. The site doesn’t send it to us or to anyone else, and we can’t see it. Documents you add to your folder also stay on this device.
A few things reach other services in the ordinary way websites work. The site is hosted by GitHub Pages and its fonts come from Google Fonts, and both receive standard web requests, such as your IP address, when a page loads. If you use Quick exit on a computer, the everyday page you’ve chosen may be loaded in the background so it can appear instantly, so that site receives a normal visit. Anything you copy out of the site, such as the AI prompt you paste into an AI assistant, is handled by the service you paste it into.
You can clear what the site has saved on this device at any time. On the main page, go to Online and data privacy and choose “Clear everything The Quiet Path has saved here”.
Payment and access
Full access is a one-off payment of NZ$79, including GST, with no subscription. Access is unlocked in the browser on the device you use. It doesn’t carry over to another device or browser, and clearing this site’s saved data removes it on that device.
At the moment, checkout is in preview and no real payment is taken.
Your decisions
You’re responsible for your own decisions and for using the information lawfully. You use the site at your own risk.
Our responsibility
We work to keep The Quiet Path accurate and useful, but we can’t promise it is complete, current or free of errors, or that it suits your situation. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for any loss or cost that comes from using the site or relying on its information.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under New Zealand law that can’t be excluded.
Free help
- Community Law gives free legal help and can point you to a family lawyer.
- Inland Revenue: child support explains how child support works and how to apply.
If you’re ever in danger, call 111.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed.
We wish you well on your path, and hope you receive what is due, for the benefit of your child or children.
